Cosmetic Interventions: GMC Guidance for Doctors Offering Cosmetic Treatments

April 12th, 2016

After the Government failed to address the need for strict regulation of the cosmetics industry it is a breath of fresh air to see the General Medical Council, who regulate doctors working in the UK, develop cosmetic interventions guidance for its registrants who work within the cosmetics industry.

It details processes that should be followed, including issues surrounding consent, fees, risks and side effects along with giving the patient time to consider whether the treatment is actually the right one for them.

The guidance should be followed by all doctors who offer not only surgical procedures but also those who offer non surgical treatments such as Botox and dermal fillers.

We only hope it is a matter of time before the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the General Dental Council issue similar guidance for its registrants who offer cosmetic procedures.

In his latest BBC documentary, Dr Michael Mosley investigates the benefits of consuming your own blood as despite years of research the regenerative properties of blood are only just beginning to be exploited.

PRP training course

Whilst eating sausages containing your own blood might not be to everyones taste, the benefits of blood are well know within the aesthetics industry and are utilised in the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) or ‘Vampire Facelift’ treatment.

Along with Thread Lift treatments, the Vampire Facelift is one of the most talked about treatments currently on the aesthetics market and is an amazing addition to any cosmetic clinic.

During the treatment a small volume of the patient’s blood is taken and then separated in a centrifuge. The platelets and plasma can then be injected into scars and wrinkles providing amazing results for patients.

Our one-day PRP training course is available to all doctors, dentists, nurses and midwives and costs just £295+VAT.
